Avalanche's Devon Toews: Scores vs. St. Louis
Toews scored a goal, took four shots, blocked a shot and posted a minus-2 rating in Sunday's 3-1 loss to the Blues.
Toews found the back of the twine for the first time since Jan. 14, when he bagged a goal in a 3-2 win over the Rangers, and he's up to seven tallies on the year. He's been contributing in more areas than just scoring, though, as this was the third time he cracked the scoresheet over his last four games. During that four-game stretch, the defenseman has one goal, three assists, seven shots, two hits and five blocked shots.

Avalanche's Mackenzie Blackwood: Gives up three goals Sunday
Blackwood stopped 22 of 25 shots in Sunday's 3-1 loss to the Blues.
Blackwood gave up three unanswered goals in the final 10 minutes of the second period, and that was a hole the Avalanche couldn't get out of. Blackwood played well before the break, winning four of his previous five starts while posting a pristine 1.62 GAA in that span, and he'll aim to bounce back in his next start, presumably against the Devils on Wednesday.

Avalanche's Mackenzie Blackwood: Starting against St. Louis
Blackwood will start Sunday's road game against the Blues, Lou Korac of NHL.com reports.
Blackwood didn't play in Saturday's loss to Nashville as the Avalanche resumed play, but he'll tend the twine in the second half of the back-to-back set. He was productive in his five starts leading up to the 4 Nations Face-Off break, as he went 4-1-0 with a 1.62 GAA and a .938 save percentage.

Avalanche's Juuso Parssinen: Collects assist against former team
Parssinen logged an assist, three shots on goal and five hits in Saturday's 2-1 loss to the Predators.
Parssinen was back in Nashville for the first time since the Predators dealt him to the Avalanche at the end of December. The 24-year-old is still working on his fit with his new team, though his production on offense is mostly unchanged. He has 11 points, 25 shots on net, 67 hits and a minus-6 rating across 36 appearances this season.

Avalanche's Sam Malinski: Scores second goal of season
Malinski scored a goal on two shots in Saturday's 2-1 loss to the Predators.
Malinski has two points over his last three games, matching his output from his previous 38 contests. The 26-year-old defenseman has had a rough second NHL campaign, but he's remained a regular presence in the Avalanche's lineup. He's at seven points, 73 shots on net, 78 blocked shots, 43 hits and a plus-2 rating over 55 appearances in a bottom-four role.

Avalanche's Scott Wedgewood: Takes tough loss against Preds
Wedgewood made 15 saves in Saturday's 2-1 loss to the Nashville.
Given an opportunity for a revenge game against the team that dealt him to the Avalanche in November, Wedgewood wound up on the wrong end of a goaltending duel with Juuse Saros, despite the fact that Colorado outshot the home squad 32-17. Wedgewood had missed the last four games before the 4 Nations Face-Off due to an upper-body injury, but he seems fully recovered and ready to resume backup duties behind Mackenzie Blackwood. Through 10 outings with the Avs, Wedgewood has gone 5-4-0 with a 2.36 GAA and a .908 save percentage.

Avalanche's Scott Wedgewood: Set to face former team
Wedgewood (upper body) is set to start on the road against Nashville on Saturday, according to Conor McGahey of Altitude TV.
Wedgewood last started Jan. 25 and was unavailable for Colorado's past four games due to injury. He has a 5-3-0 record, 2.40 GAA and .910 save percentage in nine appearances since being acquired by Colorado from Nashville on Nov. 30. He will play against his former team for the first time since the trade. The Predators rank 29th in goals per game with 2.65.

Avalanche's Josh Manson: Will miss next two games
Manson (lower body) won't travel with the Avalanche during their upcoming two-game road trip that begins Saturday in Nashville, Evan Rawal of the Denver Gazette reports Friday.
The Avalanche will face the Predators on Saturday and St. Louis on Sunday without Manson. The 33-year-old defenseman missed Colorado's final two games before the break for the 4 Nations Face-Off, so he hasn't suited up since Feb. 4. He has a goal, 13 points, 26 PIM, 94 hits and 54 blocks in 43 appearances in 2024-25.

Avalanche's Valeri Nichushkin: Not traveling on road trip
Nichushkin (lower body) will not travel with the Avalanche during their upcoming two-game road trip that starts Saturday in Nashville, according to Evan Rawal of the Denver Gazette.
Although Nichushkin will miss the next two games, the Avalanche hope he's able to return to action Wednesday when New Jersey comes to town. Nichushkin missed the 19 games leading up to the 4 Nations Face-Off break and has 11 goals and 17 points in 21 contests this season.

Avalanche's Nathan MacKinnon: Named 4 Nations MVP in Canada's win
MacKinnon scored a goal Thursday in Canada's 3-2 overtime win over the United States in the 4 Nations Face-Off Final.
MacKinnon opened the scoring with a wrister from the point through traffic that Connor Hellebuyck simply couldn't see. Mack led the tournament with four goals (15 shots), and he was named the 4 Nations MVP. MacKinnon is the NHL's leading scorer with 87 points (21 goals, 66 assists) over 57 games, and he's one of the early contenders for the Hart trophy. This could be a season of MVPs for the intense Canadian.

Avalanche's Valeri Nichushkin: Back at practice
Nichushkin (lower body) returned to practice Thursday, Evan Rawal of the Denver Gazette reports.
Nichushkin practiced for 15 minutes, participating in line rushes before stopping when contact drills began, but he still worked on his own afterward. Nichushkin has missed the last 19 games and is doubtful for Colorado's back-to-back set this weekend. He has 11 goals and 17 points over 21 games this season.

Avalanche's Cale Makar: Back in action Monday for Canada
Makar (illness) logged a team-high 23:57 in Canada's 5-3 win over Finland at the 4 Nations Face-Off on Monday.
He had four shots and four blocked shots. Makar is the motor that runs the Canadian blue line in all three zones. His return is critical to Canada's chances on Thursday against the U.S. in the 4 Nations Face-Off championship.

Avalanche's Nathan MacKinnon: Electric Monday leads Canada to win
MacKinnon scored two goals in Canada's 5-3 win over Finland at the 4 Nations Face-Off on Monday.
MacKinnon's second goal pushed Canada up 4-0 in the second period. It was a one-timer off a pass from Sidney Crosby, who was below the goal line, and it forced Kevin Lankinen from the Finnish net. The goal also stood as the winner. MacKinnon was named the Player-of-the-Game for his work. He has shown real chemistry with line mate and fellow Nova Scotian, Sidney Crosby, and Florida's Sam Reinhart joined the trio Monday. The overall result was electric -- Crosby had a goal and an assist, and Reinhart put up three helpers.

Avalanche's Cale Makar: Set to play against Finland
Makar (illness) is expected to be in action for Canada against Finland on Monday, Dan Rosen of NHL.com reports.
With the Canadians needing a regulation win to get themselves into the Final of the 4 Nations Face-Off, the offense will be bolstered by the return of Makar, who was unavailable against the USA on Saturday. The blueliner was held off the scoresheet versus Sweden in the opener but still managed two shots and three blocked shots while leading the team with 28:06 of ice time. Makar should link up with the other Team Canada stars on the No. 1 power-play unit, setting him up well to offer solid fantasy value.

Avalanche's Mikhail Gulyayev: Treading water in KHL
Gulyayev has logged six goals, eight helpers, six PIM, 70 shots on goal and a minus-2 rating over 55 games with KHL Omsk in 2024-25.
Gulyayev, the No. 31 overall selection by Colorado in the 2023 NHL Entry Draft, is playing in his third KHL season. His contract with Omsk doesn't expire until after the 2025-26 campaign. The 19-year-old blueliner's progression has been questionable at best -- his 15:53 of average ice time in 2024-25 is a marginal increase from the 15:38 he received in 2023-24. His development will be of keen interest to the Avalanche -- the club does not possess a deep prospect pool. Gulyayev shouldn't be expected to transition to the NHL until at least 2026-27.
